Preparing Your Home for Sale

There are many things to do once you are ready to prepare your home for sale. The famous interior designer, Carole Eichen, has put together a list of things that you will want to do in order to make your home presentable to buyers. Some of the most simple things can attract the right buyer. On her list, she wants sellers to consider the following:

1. Remove unnecessary furniture so you can arrange the rest for easy traffic flow.

2. Box up any unnecessary household items taking up space.

3. Coordinate colors in each room.

4. Add new window treatments that do not obstruct views.

5. Keep all of the window treatments open to let light in.

6. Paint walls in a neutral color.

7. Paint baseboards in a high gloss white.

8. Paint all caps and handrails in a light or neutral color.

9. Refinish cabinets to a light finish, or paint with a white high gloss.

10. Flooring needs to be light in color and light on patterns.

11. Re-grout floors and countertops.

12. Add new carpet if needed.

13. Wallpaper over any outdated papers. Patterns should be minimal and colors light.

14. Paint a neutral color on dark paneled walls.

15. Update all light fixtures.

16. Have three light sources per room, and leave the lights on during a showing.

17. Leave soft music on in all rooms, but make sure that the radios you add are not visible.

18. Fireplaces need to be on during the winter and air conditioning in the summer.

These simple tips will make any home look appealing to potential buyers.
